Construction work on the 20-megawatt (MW) hydropower project at Head Marala kicked off on Tuesday.
While giving a briefing Provincial Secretary, Energy Department Punjab, Rab Nawaz said that the project would be completed in May 2014 with a stipulated period of 30 months and total cost of $35.38 million under the supervision of Punjab government.
He said that the contract of the project has been awarded to a Chinese firm SINOTEC-SHPE under the renewable Energy Development Sector Investment Programme.
The barrage is located about 22 kilometres north-west of Sialkot on River Chenab.
