ISLAMABAD/KARACHI:

Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Friday claimed that three officials belonging to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore and Foreigners’ Registration Branch Karachi (FRB) were arrested for their role in allegedly extending visas of Indians in Pakistan without completing codal formalities and were also involved in financial corruption.

In a statement released by his office late in the night, Malik claimed to have received credible information that Sub-Inspector Khursheed, Superintedent Naseem Usmani of FRB Karachi and Malik Shabir of FIA checkpost at Wahga border Lahore, along with many others, were involved extending the visas to Indian nationals in Pakistan without completing the codal formalities.

The accused were allegedly involved in a racket of illegally extending the visas of Indian nationals and earning huge sums of money in return.

“Most of those arrested have been at their posts for years on and eventually after gathering sufficient evidence we moved against them,” said Acting Deputy Director FIA Anti Human Trafficking Cell Incharge Chaudhry Sohail Faiz.

The interior minister said that the three arrested officials, along with certain officials in the passport office in Saddar, Karachi, some travel agents and a Section Officer (SO) in the interior ministry were allegedly involved in the scam and were detained for questioning.
