The United States should have treated those who crashed their aircraft into the World Trade Center like criminals, rather than turning its guns against what it called radical Islam.
This was said by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan at the launching ceremony of his book “Pakistan: A personal history” here on Thursday. To support his stance, Imran quoted Osama bin Laden in an interview with Robert Frisk, where he said his demands were political and not religion related.
About his book, he said, “I am not a philosopher, not a religious scholar nor an expert, but I wrote this book to address the confusion in the minds of Pakistani youth regarding future of our country.”
Criticising the rulers, Khan said, they are busy in looting, plundering and misleading their countrymen. “We allowed the criminals to govern the country and lead us into darkness,” he added.
The charismatic cricketer, who led Pakistan to a world cup victory in 1992, asked the youth to take part in the politics and not consider it “dirty” if they wanted a secure future.
Moreover, Khan termed Allama Iqbal as ideological father of the nation. “Iqbal’s teachings have inspired me to a great extent,” Khan said.
A gathering of diplomats, politicians and intellectuals attended the book launch.
