LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought a reply from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the managing director of Pakistan Television (PTV) to a petition seeking to stop a supposed joint venture between PTV and India’s Zee Media Group. According to petitioner Mian Muhammad Aslam, PTV is negotiating a deal worth Rs3-4 billion with ‘Zee subsidiary’ Ten Sports to allow it exclusive rights to show domestic sporting events. He said allowing foreign companies into communications and broadcasting in Pakistan raised security concerns. It violated the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Ordinance of 2002, he added. The petitioner also argued that PTV Managing Director Yousaf Baig Mirza should be removed as he had once been an employee for Zee, which was against the law.
