Illegal immigration: Indonesia arrests Pakistani man

Man, who is in police custody, will face a legal process in Indonesia before being extradited to Australia.

JAKARTA: Indonesia has arrested a Pakistani man wanted in Australia for smuggling illegal immigrants into Australia, Police Commissioner Budi Santoso told AFP on Wednesday.

Sajjad Hussain Noor was arrested at his Jakarta apartment on Tuesday, said Santoso who heads Indonesia’s anti-people smuggling task force.

“We made the arrest following an extradition request by the Australian government for his involvement in many cases of human smuggling,” he said. “Some witnesses in several people-smuggling trials held in Australia gave evidence about his role in the crimes,” he said.

Santoso said that the man, who is in police custody, will face a legal process in Indonesia before being extradited to Australia.
