One of the key architects of Zong’s spectacular subscriber growth over the past few years, Salman Wassay, has left the company to join Ufone, a subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunications Company (PTCL), reported ApnaTime, a telecom industry news portal, on Wednesday. The website cited unnamed sources as saying that the move was a pre-emptive strike by Ufone, which has been feeling threatened by Zong’s surge. The Express Tribune was unable to reach Wassay for comment, despite repeated attempts. A spokesperson for Ufone did not return calls as the newspaper went to print.
