The PPP on Wednesday sent a letter to the federal government seeking the constitution of the judicial inquiry commission to look into alleged corruption by Punjab government in seven areas.
Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly (PA) Raja Riaz, said 108 members of his party had signed the letter which had been sent to the Interior Ministry. He said PPP’s legislators wanted a judicial probe into the Sasti Roti Scheme, Punjab Food Stamp Scheme, the purchase of sub-standard dengue medications, the Ashiana Housing Scheme, the irregular awarding of tenders, financial corruption in various departments and the Yellow Cab Scheme.
Riaz wanted upright citizens to populate the commission. The Punjab, he said, had collapsed financially and administratively. Sources in the PPP told The Express Tribune that the federal government had given it’s blessing to PPP Punjab to forward such a letter to needle the PML-N.
PPP’s Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the PA Shaukat Mehmood Basra told The Express Tribune that according to law, the federal government would request the court to form a judicial commission in the public interest. Basra refused to comment on whether PPP Punjab had gotten a go-ahead from the federal government before sending off the letter.
