ST SIMONS ISLAND:
Webb Simpson endured a difficult day on the greens but still stayed within two strokes of Michael Thompson’s third-round lead at the McGladrey Classic. Simpson, who is heading toward a likely showdown with world number one Luke Donald next week for the US tour’s money title, needed 35 putts in his one-under par 69 on the par-70 Seaside Course. That gave him a 54-hole total of 11-under 199, tied for third with former Masters champion Trevor Immelman and behind Thompson and Billy Horschel.
