The family of a man attacked with a shaving blade by a ‘wanted criminal’ at Pak Gate police lockup in Multan have alleged that police were protecting a criminal gang in the area and had made a fake case against him.
Allah Ditta is under treatment for his wounds at Nishter Hospital. Doctors told The Express Tribune that he had lost excessive blood when he was brought to the hospital. They said he would have lost his life in case of a delay.
Ditta’s family alleged that Pak Gate police implicated him in a false case.
They said two men, Bilal and Memon, had allegedly broken into their house.
“They had a gun. Ditta fought with them and snatched a gun from Bilal,” they added. They said that during the brawl Ditta shot a fire, injuring Bilal on his leg. Later, he was arrested by the police and the two attackers were let go, his family alleged.
Pak Gate police rejected that they were patronising criminals. They said strict action would be taken against Shahbaz, the man who had attacked Ditta.
Shehbaz had been arrested by the Pak Gate police after residents of the area held a protest against him, accusing him of sexually assaulting a minor girl.
Police said there were several robbery and murder cases against the man in Pak Gate and Kook police stations.
