July 11, 2010

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is cutting trees in different areas of the capital for widening roads and constructing buildings, because of which the city’s natural looks are under threat. A man from Bhara Kahu said that he had seen trailers loaded with tree trunks passing through his town. Other residents of  the area said that the authority and timber mafia were chopping down both young and fully grown trees.

An official of CDA said that the Environment Directorate has initiated attractive landscaping and tree plantation drives at various mega project sites, which are near completion. He said that in an attempt to beautify the capital, the CDA would plant grass, trees and plants at the Constitution Avenue, I.J Principal Road, Islamabad Highway and Faisal Avenue.
