A new taxi service for the twin cities

ISLAMABAD: Ever wondered if there was a cheaper alternative to the various call cab services operating in the twin cities? Wonder no more for All Taxi Welfare Association (ATWA) is planning to launch a new taxi service that they claim will be safe, affordable and more convenient than the existing services available in the city.

There are about 22000 taxis operating in the twin cities, according to Aftab Malik, President ATWA. He said that the association was planning to tap into this vast network of taxis and convince them to register for the new taxi service. He added that currently there was no way to weed out criminals operating in the twin cities under the guise of taxi drivers. Drivers working with the new service will have to go through a thorough background check before they are registered, thereby ensuring a safer service for the customers.

The new service, called ‘Safe and Secure Service’, is scheduled to be launched in about a month, Malik said.

The call-cab services currently operating in the twin cities charge about Rs22 per kilometre from their customers. Although the association is yet to set a rate for the new service, Malik believes that their rates will be much lower than the existing call-cab fares.
