MULTAN: The custom collectorate offices in the district ordered the auction of old tyres at all dry ports and custom offices to contain the spread of the dengue virus on Friday.

A notice has been issued asking officials to start checking all concerned custom offices and collecting used tyres which had been taken into custody during different raids by the authority concerned. Meanwhile, district coordination officer (DCO) Akhtar Zaman has already placed a ban on the use of old tyres at godowns and workshops.

The directive was issued in the wake of the growing dengue threat in the district and medical experts have termed discarded tyres as a breeding ground for mosquito breeding. The order will be enforced with immediate effect.
