L’Oreal Pakistan spokesperson Meesha Shafi is all set to feature in the Hollywood venture, The Reluctant Fundamentalist along with Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Om Puri and Shabana Azmi.
Internationally acclaimed film-maker Mira Nair — director of Salaam Bombay!, Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake — has begun shooting for her new film which is based on Pakistani writer Mohsin Hamid’s best-selling novel of the same name. A Mirabai Films and Cine Mosaic production, the film is adapted by Bill Wheeler, Hamid, and Ami Boghani and produced by Lydia Dean Pilcher. Shooting for the film began this week on locations in Atlanta, New York, Lahore, Delhi and Istanbul.
The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a riveting thriller about Changez, a young Pakistani man chasing corporate success on Wall Street. However, after the 9/11 catastrophe, Changez experiences a seismic shift in his own attitude, unearthing allegiances more fundamental than money, power and, maybe even love.
The multicultural project stars Riz Ahmed (The Road to Guantanamo, Four Lions, Black Gold) in the lead role of Changez alongside actors Kate Hudson (Bride Wars, Nine, Something Borrowed), Liev Schreiber (Salt, The Manchurian Candidate) and Kiefer Sutherland (“24”).
The project was finalised when Nair flew down to Lahore to discuss the script with Hamid a few months ago. It has been reported that the Indian film-maker took the help of Pakistan experimental film-maker Mehreen Jabbar to finalise the cast of her latest venture.
According to indiantelevision.com, Nair, who may be best known for Monsoon Wedding, is also planning to shoot her novel inspired film in Pakistan, becoming the third Indian film-maker along with Yousaf Saeed and Mahesh Bhatt to do so.

Madiha, very sorry to hear what you have gone through, what do you expect from wanabe singer/actress. There are good singers like Jawad, Rahim,Jahanzaib , Fakhir name few, they are good singers with good values , they dont need some paid news articles make them famous or run a fake contest, there singing and character speak from them. i bet you Madhia there was no other Madhia Minhas who won, it was you but they never wanted pay out the prize in first place, Meesha just wanted some cheap publicity same way this article about her going to hollywood doing the movie
A big fan. Liked her since the very beginning. Maila Keriye, Vichar Gaye and Chori Chori are personal favorites.
What has really made me to comment here is that I want to ask you that what should the fans do when the celebrities start lying to them? On her Meesha Shafi fan page, she asked her fans about her personal favorite song and the choices where chori chori and Alif Allah. I gave the answer as well like all the other fans. Won it as well through some random selection. 4 months passed by. A few days ago, got to know that I was the one who had won the last competition. Left a message since I was excited. Emailed the details as well. Then I got to know that there was some other Madiha Minhas and not me. I said ok its not about the prize, just do not lie and tell me that if there really is some other madiha MINHAS so kindly show me her answer in the thread. No response to that. What am I supposed to do now? Should I call them liars?
Prize or NO prize. That's not the question. The question is that when celebrities (or their agency in this case) start lying to you and don't give you the answer with right evidence, what are u supposed to do? You better SPEAK UP coz YOU are their fans. They should not take you for granted for any reason.
I guess after Mira Nair got wind that Ali Zafar refused to do any kissing scenes she dumped him as the lead for The Reluctant Fundamentalist. This film would have catapulted Ali into the international film arena but alas he will have to wade the waters of Bollywood masala movies.
Haha since Pakistan is the center of US politics now alot of Pakistan oriented tales will come of Muslims becoming terrorists from our beloved country. Great way to show the world what Pakistan is all about. But why should that be a problem we are techincally under the "American" rule anyway we never got our freedom that we thought we did in 1947.
It's more like a US/Indian indie film than a Hollywood project.
Best of luck misha and the whole team of movie
Great, another stereotypical Hollywood film about Muslims.
