On the first day of a three-day event at the Institute of Space Technology (IST), people were informed about space technology, satellite communications and upper atmospheric research, said a press release issued by the IST. More than 50 schools and colleges are participating in the event.

The event is being organised to celebrate the World Space Week, between October 4 and October 10, as declared by the UN General Assembly in 1999, implementing a key recommendation of the third United Nations’ Conference on the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space.

The World Space Week at IST includes bilingual declamation contest, projects’ display by universities, aero modelling training, bilingual essay writing, painting/sketching competition, space model display competition and space theatre.

A space family fair is also being arranged. Food stalls, a gaming zone and a “meeting with cartoon characters” have also been organised for children, said the press release.
