ISLAMABAD:

The Zarai Taraqiati Bank (ZTBL) has told the World Bank (WB) that it wants to enhance credit facility up to Rs895 billion over the next four to five years in order to meet increasing demand of loans from farmers and give a boost to the agricultural sector.

“ZTBL is currently providing financing of Rs70 billion which is very small compared to the demand and there is a big gap between demand and supply which is increasing,” ZTBL President Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf told the WB mission in a meeting on Thursday.

The mission head asked from which sources ZTBL would raise the amount of loans, to which Ashraf replied that “if WB cooperates with ZTBL, it can help bring revolutionary changes in the agricultural sector including crop production, dairy farming, use of modern techniques and export of fruits, vegetables and flowers.”
