Fair taxation: Govt should not burden taxpayers: LCCI

Laws must be made for the trade and industry and not at their expense

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Wednesday demanded the government to bring all untaxed sectors into the tax net instead of twisting the arm of existing taxpayers. The demand was raised by the LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and Senior Vice President Kashif Younas Mehar while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Steel Line Pipe Association, led by its Chairman M H S Kazmi. Sheikh said that the agriculture sector, with a share of 25% in Gross Domestic Product, contributes hardly 6% towards tax revenue. Sheikh further said that the business community would not tolerate any tax-related policy that would be implemented without the due consultation of the stakeholders. “Laws must be made for the trade and industry and not at their expense,” he said.
