Imran Farooq murder: London Police still investigating case

LONDON: The London Metropoliton Police has said that it was still investigating the murder of Dr Imran Farooq in London last year.

According to a letter sent to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, the Counter Terrorism Command chief of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), Commander Richard Walton wrote that they had released an estimated fit of a man whom they wish to speak to in connection with Dr Farooq's murder.

Walton wrote that they had issued appeals to the public to step forward and assist in identifying a second Asian man whom the MPS wished to trace in connection with the incident.

MPS said that they had obtained CCTV footage specific to the movements of Dr Farooq on the day of his murder, from the time that he went to work, to the time when he was walking back to his house.

The letter further said that a number of rumours and incorrect stories were circulating in the London and Pakistani presses in connection to the case. MPS clarified that so far a 35 year old male had been arrested in Camden on December 9, 2010.

It quashed media reports that the MPS had arrested three further suspects and conducted two searches in London. It also refuted the report that arrests were carried out in Pakistan on the request of MPS.

The MPS announced a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the murder.
