LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to renew selector Salim Jaffer’s contract after a reported conflict with the chairman Ijaz Butt.

The conflict over the selection process was discussed during the PCB Governing Board (GB) meeting in which Butt addressed concerns within the selection committee. The committee includes Mohammad Ilyas and Azhar Khan as regular members, chief selector Mohsin Khan, as well as Asif Baloch and Farrukh Zaman as the co-opted members.

The reports of the conflict emerged after Jaffer - denied having a say in selecting the Test squad - conveyed his reservations about the naming of the squad to PCB’s Governing Board member Wazir Ali Khoja.

The squad for the Test series and Twenty20 matches was named together by chief selector Mohsin Khan in Sri Lanka.

According to the details received by The Express Tribune, Butt expressed his dismay over the attitude of the selector at the GB meeting, and decided to trim down the number of the committee members to four with two co-opted members.

“Salim Jaffar’s contract will expire this week and the board has decided not to renew it,” said a PCB official.

Jaffer, who was a member of the selection committee since 2007, was also named an interim chief selector by Butt replacing Salahuddin Ahmed, who resigned from the role.
