Uncomfortably numb

July 08, 2010 Less than a minute read

ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to George Fulton’s “Uncomfortably numb” (July 6). We have become a nation of hypocrites – condemning terrorism and simultaneously supporting it in some form or the other. Terrorist organisations get banned, change their names, and start operating under different names with no one raising any objections. Some people defend the indefensible, by citing American presence in the region. Our insensitivity as a nation is evident from the fact when footage of these attacks is aired, some channels continue with their regular transmission and musical programmes.

The Punjab government needs to stop denying the existence of terrorists in the province. By refusing to deal with the threat, the way the former MMA government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa did, the problem in Punjab might become as serious as it became in the latter.
