KARACHI:

Declining a request to dispose of a constitutional petition as “not pressed”, a division bench of the High Court of Sindh (SHC) sought on Friday a detailed report from the Inspector General Police (IGP), Sindh on how an accused involved in a number of cases and a suspected hardened criminal was released by the police.

The bench was hearing a petition against the alleged illegal detention of Khalid Ali Taggar filed by his father Bilawal Taggar. Earlier, the counsel for the petitioner appeared before the court and prayed that the petition be disposed of as not pressed but the bench refused to do so. The petition appears to be motivated to protect a notorious criminal wanted in a number of cases. , the bench said in its order. It asked the Additional Advocate General of Sindh how the man allegedly slipped from the custody of the police.

The bench noted that SHO Karim Bux of Sarhad, Ghotki district, took the accused to his residence from where he escaped.
