Qadri, one of Taseer’s elite force guards, shot and killed the governor for his views on the blasphemy law outside a restaurant in Islamabad.
During the incamera hearing of the murder case, the anti-terrorism court (ATC) said that it was a heinous crime and there is no justification to it; however, no date has been given for the execution of the sentence. The court also fined Qadri of Rs200,000 along with the death sentence.
Justice Syed Pervez Ali Shah, an ATC judge, while taking up the case at the Adiala Jail, noted down the statement of Qadri. In this statement, Qadri admitted before the judge that nobody intimidated him to murder the former governor.
Raja Shujahur Rehman, Qadri’s lawyer, told the media outside Adiala Jail that his client had also submitted a written statement of 40 pages, referring to 11 Quranic verses, 28 quotes from Sunnah and several other eminent Muslim jurists with reference to Islamic jurisprudence.
The defence lawyer stated that the prosecution raised no objection over the statement of Qadri, therefore the court validly admitted this statement and made it a part of the court record.
Experts say that Qadri has to appeal within seven days against the verdict.
Tears of anger
Qadri's supporters took to the streets to denounce the sentence soon after it was handed down.
"By punishing one Mumtaz Qadri, you will produce a thousand Mumtaz Qadris!" one man shouted through a megaphone outside the jail.
Several hundred supporters of Qadri blocked a road outside the jail and chanted slogans. Some recited verses from the Quran while members of the Sunni Tehreek group waved their party's green and yellow flags.
A Qadri supporter, wiping tears from his face, said: "We don't accept this. We don't accept this."
Police were deployed at the jail gate to prevent any break-in. After Qadri was sentenced, the judge left through the back door.
In Rawalpindi's Liaquat Bagh area, where former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in December 2007, about 1,000 angry Qadri supporters blocked a main road with burning tyres.
Shouting slogans against the government and the judge who sentenced Qadri, they forced shops to shut down.
Stick-wielding protesters attacked passing vehicles.
"This decision was made to please the Jewish lobby," said Sahibzada Ata-ur-Rehman, a leader of the Sunni Tehreek.
Qadri, a constable in the Punjab Police and a member of its Elite Force, tried to justify his murder of the governor by stating that he had killed him for supporting Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman whom Taseer had believed had been wrongly convicted of committing blasphemy.
According to Qadri’s statement, he had approached the governor on the evening of January 4 and tried to talk to him about Taseer’s very public support for Aasia Bibi and his advocacy of reform – not repeal – of the blasphemy laws.

Shame on you all who insult the man so in love with our final Prophet (SAW), shame on you for trying to embrace the western ideology of secularism, shame on you for abusing a man whose belief in Allah is so strong that he is smiling at the face of death. No one has the right to judge but Allah Almighty. I do not support his act, but what I do support is his steadfast belief. Blockquote
@Sunny:
My dear Sunny: Justice is definitely alive in pakistan at the lower level but the same is never heard or seen being done by the apex courts. Qadri will definetely be released by the superior courts because judges are scared of terrorist groups.
Judges and journalists are not safe in that country. They can't dare to open their mouth against "organised crime" either in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab or any other part of the country my dear "Naive" Sunny.
It's a time to pray for humanity and my loving Pakistan.
Mussarat Hussain
Qadri Sahib should be burried with either AbuLahab's grave or Abu Jahal's grave , I will althogh vote for Abu Jahal. Why,? ok , Abu jahal was actually known as "Abu al-Hakam" (translated to English as "Father of Wisdom", i.e. he was considered a wise man amongst the Quraysh) & as I now understand Qadri Sahib is also considered wise man among his like minders.
I REQUEST CIVIL SOCIETY TO START COMPAIGN FOR RETURNING THOSE MORTAL REMAINS OF QADRI SAHIB TO SAUDI ARAB . PLEASEE COME FORWARD.
@aafaq ali khan very good comment
At last justice has been done,courageous contribution by the ATC judge to bring extrmist to justice.May Allah give us the power to say wrong is wrong no matter what hardship comes in its way. Allah bless our country.
he took law into his hands,but does any1 believes that law exists in pak?? if qadri would hav asked the court to decide taseer's fate,no1 will ever believe that court conducts a fair trial against a ruling governer,so it was the only option for qadri,i think his act was justified,he will b rewarded for that in life hereafter
@basharit: "Long Live Ghazi Mumtaz Qadri"who cares about Pakistan
Long Live Ghazi Mumtaz Qadri
@Hyder Ali: You have spoken like a true muslim. is there any wonder that muslims are hated all over the world now. You and the likes of you keep up the good work, so the world come to know the evils of Islam.
Hazrat Umer has made all laws in the light of Quran ans Sunna, first read the history of islam and then write any thing. Wake Up Khan
Its time to say no to so-called ashq-e-muhammad...
@Pakistani Mentality: Salman,Mr.Asif Ghardari,Malik,Galni and his son and team was doing great job since they serving pak.Whole pakistan is happy with them.This shows that they will not go hell.
Salman was take caring of poor people saying prayer and doing all things that a noble man should do?
@Diggvijay Singh: qadri made us ashmed before the whole world.i think this is the just decision of the ATC.may ALLAH give us the courage to prevent such act in the future.
It is very nice to hear that a justice system still alive in Pak .otherwise these religious extremist ( molvie) has changed the entire meaning of Islam .
Excellent decision no space for killers and murderers in our society, pl don't justify or defend killers no matter who. This murderer should be hanged from the minar e Pakistan So positive message goes out to the world
When the ATC announced it's verdict, a hope of life with dignity emerged, this evil satanic verse of a creature and others like him need to be eliminated from decent law abiding societies, there can not be, and shall not be a time where people are allowed to take the law in their own hands, then go back and try to take cover of religion, these warped,demented,sick youths who we see on TV screens need to be monitored for future conduct in society. Mr Taseer may have uttered words not so favourable to some who suffer from indigestion of reality in life, but there can never ever be justification for this heinous act of cold blooded murder. Qadri in my opinion should be hanged till death, his body placed down and then be presented to wild pigs for consumption for we cannot have this resident evil to flourish under any circumstances, moderates please come out and celebrate the departure of a callous cold blooded heartless murderer.
It took too long for the court to give judgement about a simple broad daylight case of murder in which the accused is confessing the crime from very first day, on the other hand in a country like Pakistan where no one is safe from extremists or criminals, we ought to salute the Judge who will might to paying very heavy price for his decision. He must be knowing it. Who says we don’t have men of honor in Pakistan.
@rashid: worth reading
@ nadia Ask yourself whether Salman was a ghustakhi e Rasool or not? Don't insult the dead man and countless like him who suffered because of blasphemy law. He was killed as a result of misunderstanding and you know that very well. He criticized the law. Is that blasphemy?
Anyway i can't wait for the hanging of Qadri. He should be made an example.
I hope Pakistani government is ready to brace violent protests that are inevitable as a result of announcing this verdict. This would be a good time to take a very hard stance against the supporters of religious extremism and move toward taking back charge of the country.
Mumtaz Qadri did right. ghustakhi e Rasool shudnt be allowed by a person at this post, salman was brought to justice, where noone can else could do it, coz he was backed by nonmuslims and those who insult our religion and to prove them, we are puppets Qadri has been sentenced. its a shame for islamic country.
@Digvijay Singh
Well played, sir. Well played.
..what about Qadri's betrayal of trust also being a heinous crime??
@Diggvijay Singh: I know u r an impostor...But let me ask u sth?India is a hindu majority state as Pakistan is a muslim majority.If some muslim christain r any1 insults my religion or God (in my perception),do I have a right to kill him.There is something called TOLERANCE which is not found in the people who carried out GODHRA Train burning of hindus,and the POST_GODHRA riots in which muslims were killed and the likes of Mumtaz Qadri.There are so many pakistanis commenting on this forum and a majority is condemning the killing of SALAMAN TASEER.If u have sharp memory GRAHAM STAINES was killed in INDIA by some fanatics of my religion for spreading CHRISTANITY,and the killers'(dara singh)views were quite similar to that of qadri.He also recited gita..It is the fear of the violence conducted in the name of one religion that is used by the bigots in the other religion to preach hate.Even Jinnah and Nehru were opposed to each other's views,what should they have done-killed each other?That s wat proper education brings in u.
“By punishing one Mumtaz Qadri, you will produce a thousand Mumtaz Qadris!” one man shouted through a megaphone outside the jail.
Ok. If it comes down to this then we are ready to hang all of them. However, let this decision be finalized. We will celebrate this verdict with all supporters of Qadri.
It should have been life sentence rather then the Death sentence! :)
Justice is, when a poor man commits a crime he receives the same punishment a rich/influential man will receive for committing the same crime. Is this what has happened? The crime he committed deserves the punishment he has been sentenced to, but is this happening in every case in Pakistan or sometimes some people pay "blood money" and get away with such crimes? We all know the answer; hope so.
Kudis to the judge! Finally justice prevailed. Now Taseer family will find some solace.
Time to stand up to these extremists.
We need this kind of justice in Quetta also. Come on jury, you can safe this country.
I know this may sound controversial to many.. But I am proud that our courts have started to take BRAVE decisions.. after the Sialkot Killing incident's decision by court, this is another major step towards a probably civilized and humane nation. Law and Order should not be in the hands of the public, people should realize this by now, no matter what the circumstances maybe.
Just has been done ----------no one can be allowed to take the life of other ---------------we support this decision -------
It should be remember that it is a verdict of trail court.Now the appeal will move in appellate court and the verdict of trail court could be revoke there.So on this stage ,people who follow him should control their sentiments .As he confessed his offence on the religious grounds ,he should not go in appeal.On the other hand ,Shahbaz Taseer,who is the prosecutor in this case is still not recover.His recovery will also related the verdict of appellate court.
U r 100% right
A brave judge INDEED. Bon Courage Sir
@Abdullah: You need help. So with your logic I can kill someone and if the court finds that the person was guilty later I should be let off free. People like you are the reason Pakistan is in the position it is today. @moulanamaududi: What kind of religion is your version of Islam where if some one criticizes the prophet they deserve death. We are inquisitive humans and part of the reason we have made so many discoveries over time is because we question everything from why the sun rises from the east, why do things fall down and not float away when we drop them ..... and whether god really exists. You are entitled to your belief as is everyone else. If you have the right to kill to defend your belief than so does every one else. You are just pathetic.
Im sorry if anybody passes a bad comment about your religious head or has a different opinion than you about your god they do no deserve death no matter what this silly Blasphemy law says. Even if they mock your god or beliefs they are entitled to do so. God sent us to live as free thinking human beings. He didnt send us to take life when we please. Next I can just kill someone cause I disagree with them and then quote my religious text and say that my religion commands me to do so.
Just because someone has a differing opinion does not make them any less of a human being. Qadri took a life and deserves to be punished. He has no right to kill anyone. People trying to justify his act by saying he was defending islam are a joke. Its a shameful act and people defending his actions should burry their heads in the ground. Salman Taseer right or wrong did not deserve death.
Mumtaz Qadri is a hero,he did the right thing and i dont understand why these so call liberal Pakistanis are making it a big issue why dont they realize that Pakistan is a Muslim Country and how could someone even dare to change Blasphemy Law in a Muslim Country.
@Diggvijay Singh You are right religion is a sensitive issues and a man from the government,needed to show more maturity and statesmanship.
Hang him before new drama starts.
Allah hu Akbar :)
Until this great Nation is called the Islamic republic of Pakistan NO-ONE will dare hang this great warrior. If he is then we will see the real power of the public of Pakistan. So say what you want it will never happen. The appeal will be lodged and accepted our Ghazi will get life in prison untill the current goverment changes then he will be set free.
Disagree with me all you want but this is exactly what will happen.
i think shahbaz taseer was kidnapped for bargaining for compromise to cancel the death sentence...someone had planned for future days well ahead of time...but atleast terrorists have more future vision than our public and incompetent establishment.
Liberal extremists won the match using D/L method!!!
May all who act as he(qadri) did share his fate...
@zubair: For all who write in favor of Qadri, I wish you had seen the TV news report immediately after Salman Taseer's assasination: Mumtaz Qadri was sitting in the police van grinning and winking to someone off-camera - very much an indication of pre-meditation and nothing whatsoever to do with religous fervour. Wake up: he is nothing but a cold blooded murderer and his action has nothing to do with blasphemy or Islam. Justice should and will be served.
If Mumtaz Qadri and his supporters have pure hearts, let them not appeal or for that matter even criticize this decision.
"Why do humans kill humans to show humans killing is wrong?" - Amnesty International Most of the above comments are from bloodthirsty and revengeful people. The collective euphoria of the society welcoming the murder of this brainwashed human clearly demonstrates, that the society in general is as backward, sick and retarded as this religious fanatic.
@hyder ali, Qadri was a murderer pure and simple , any excuse of love for ....doesnt count . @abdullah,
We are human beings , with a country , constitution and court of law.Therefore blasphemy is also a law which was made by people in this country and can be amended, revoked as per the desire of the members of parliamant. The courts simply follow the laws and if considered bad laws they can comment on it ,however the laws are man made and can be amended
How Much We Will Hear From These "Right To Speak" Warriors ?Anyone Who Has Some Time Started Criticizing Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallahu Allahi Wassslam),Do They Even Know He Was The Prophet of Mercy? He Never Killed Innocent ,Never Abused Anyone ,Never Married Children's,He Never Got Lust Over Sons Daughter, Never Slept With Slaves ,He Was a Broad-Minded Rationalist Whose Moto Was Never To Hate Anyone Then Why These People Started Calling Him With Bad Words ,Why They Started Abusing Universal Scientific Laws Of Allah(Subhan Wa Talla) ?*
And its Said You Get What Yo Do (karma),So Taseer Got His Price And May Allah Bless Quadri The Pious Man For His Achievements For Islam May he Get Swaab And Jannah Ameen :|*
It's only the illiterate, like Mr Qadri, who protest and are supporting him.
Only if we had invested all the aid coming to Pakistan for decades into education, we'd have been a nation without extremists.
Hang him and all the terrorist groups spread out through Pakistan (Haqqani, Extremist Mullahs, Taliban....)
Even if Salman Taseer was guilty, Qadri does not get right to kill him. Shame on Brelvi mullahs whi cry when deobandi Taleban kill them for shirk; that is in the name of Islam, just watch the interview of a to be suicide bomber arrested injured from DG Khan mazar.
Courts should show such courage against others killers in the name of Islam as Malik Ishaq and others,
Which Islam are we talking abouot, Shia, Sunee, Dewbandi, Barelwi, Ahmadi, Bahaie, Agakhani, Fatehi, SHafehi, Hambali, Hanafi or Just a muslim with a good character....
Wake up People...Most of these laws made by Hazrat Umar , do you think he is a prophet or GOD ?? Whay cant we add DNA test to justify rape.. are we out of our mind ???? WAKE UP!!!!
Where in Islam has it been said for Munafiq ,Muslim, Kafir or mushrik to be slain if he or she let loose a few foul remarks about Islam or even against our beloved last prophet (PBUH). There has been unambiguous example of tolerance that was set by our Prophet (SAW) about dealing with non Muslims in religious matters.Can anyone remember the incident of bazaar of TAIF where our prophet(PBUH) was pelted (NAWUZUBILLAH) by enemies of Islam, can any one remember the disdainful and rancorous habit of an old non Muslim women who used to throw filthy things on our prophet, and later when she fell sick and could not be seen out for days our prophet went to see her by himself and can anybody produce any record of blasphemy law that had been promptly made by SAHABAS and implemented on any one.In fact we are unfortunate that a cunning party who itself was against the creation of Pakistan took hold of every religious matters here and became the mother party of all so called fanatic religious parties that grew in the supervision of this notorious and cunning Party.And this was the only Party who was very close to a dictator .These are the affects that we are bearing in Pakistan being embarrassed before the outside world.Nothing can distort our divine rules, nothing can diminish the image of Islam by any other means. No power has ever been able to make any dent on Islam.but yes we should be cautious by our Munafiqeen that are infinite times dangerous for Islam.We just send LA'ANAT on them who say something obnoxious to our Prophet or Sahabas. Islam always provide opportunities for the non believers , may be someday they will turn around. and be a better Muslim than we are now.
@zubair Think with your mind, not your ignorant heart. You're not the only muslim here on this thread.
Hang him because he killed a human being! Well done court.
He will remain sentenced...not hanged.
justice had been done...anybody had problem with state, justice system or anything else shall either play part to correct it or move to a place where u find peace...
@R S JOHAR:
Okay, thanks for in-time information.
@editor and all people above..................................
I think the best way to tackle this issue was that supreme court first make a comittee consisting of ulamas from sunni, shia , deobandi and all sects and decide that if salman taseer was guilty of Blasphemy . if yes than mumtaz qadri should let go free as in Islam a blashmey person should be killed...we donot need to wait for court. but if salman taseer found innocent than mumtaz qadri should be punished. Basically our justice system also follows zionist and america. can we do a justice like iran and saudi arabia.
Everyone who is against the Qadri and appriciate the ATC decision is part of anti Islam. Either they may be christ, Jews or Qadiyani. Qadri is Ghazi-e-Millat. He done that thing which Govt. have to do.
@narayana murthy: Atleast Zaid Hamid is original but he is fake, neither here nor there.
I am against capital punishment. I do not think anyone has the right to take a life.
Some good news, judiciary is improving its performance in Pakistan.
Well done courts for your decision.The extremist forces should be defeated in order to usher in new era of peace, progress and liberty in our country.There is no place for any extremism in any civilized society and let's all struggle to promote culture of tolerance, respect, liberty and freedom of speech.
Salman Taseer was bold man and he struggled for a greater cause and his death will always be remembered as martyr of the struggle for progressive and tolerant Pakistan.
@Digvijay Singh.
You are a humanist and you write "But Salman Taseer was also wrong to some extent. The authority people need to be sensitive towards the most cherished emotions of the masses. "
This coming from a humanist...ha ha ha LOL...by saying this, if you are a humanist, you make Zaid Hamid sound like an angel.
I don't give a hoot about what you say about BJP/RSS, being a Pakistani.
You try too hard to fool yourself.
It's good to know that Justice has prevailed.This case should be a model case to give a strong signal to all extremists and fundamentalists that no one is above the Law and their terrorist activities are no more acceptable and they can't shut the sane voices with bullets. They can terrorize people but they cant stop the progressive,sane and civilized voices. For a new beginning, table has to be turned to project liberal, tolerant and progressive social system, only then we can attain peace and prosperity. In spite of all such extremism in Pakistan,the curious case is with Sindh, which is safe because of people's deep respect for Sufi-ism, and pluralism. Sindhi version of Sufi-ism could also help dilute the rising extremism because it has practically proved its worth as it has saved Sindhi people to become extremists.
Anyways,We wish in our Pakistan, a land of pure, she could be become pure and free from of all sort of extremism,fascism and fundamentalism.
Salman Taseer was a man of principle. A bold person . He was a ray of hope against extremism and 'jahil ' mullas who want to kill anyone at their own wish. ST may you rest in peace. A good decision by the court. . The govt should arrange for the security of the judge.
Great decision, courts should decide who did blasphemy, individuals have no right to take actions on their own!
sorry to say that Mumtaz Qadri will be folk hero in Pakistan after few years. I read the comments of people. It seems he has already become a folk hero in Pakistan!
In my view it is very good decision by ATC in the light of laws of country. It will discourage evil doer people. Salman taseer was the hope for oppressed minorities of Pakistan, because in the name of the religion, there have been serious human rights violations since the 1973 Constitution were changed to accommodate amendements in the name of blasphemy. This has made the lives of members of minority communities miserable. Vested interests have made the most of these draconian laws in the wake of personal hatred and killed many an innocent person in the name of blasphemy. There is a need to redo the law, removing the draconian clauses so that no vested interest should be able to exploit the law. By eliminating such clauses no one would be able to become malik mumtaz qadri, no would would make wrong use of law for evil means.
Finally justice is served and now the killer should accept his punishment.
Oh man, this Qadri guy is having second thoughts about dying and supposedly going straight to heaven. May be he’s not sure of his doing after all.
Brave & right decision. Thanks to jury who stood right to her oath. At the same time, I hope higher court won't reverse it.
His hanging is not enough. CRUSH THE BLASPHEMY LAW as well.
@Diggvijay Singh: Come on give me a break why do you have to bring BJP into our countries affair
@Faiz: Please dont get carried way that this Diggvijay Singh is a former minister and controversial spokes-person of India's Congress party but you may call him as Zaid Hamid from India or Pakistan with good command and control over english language and providing some entertainment to Pakistanis by writing serious looking anti-India stuff.
I known every1 happy abt justice done bt remember the sailkot case how long it take for justice On salman taseer case with in six months case has done y ???
Put the supporters in jail too
Shame on you all who insult the man so in love with our final Prophet (SAW), shame on you for trying to embrace the western ideology of secularism, shame on you for abusing a man whose belief in Allah is so strong that he is smiling at the face of death. No one has the right to judge but Allah Almighty. I do not support his act, but what I do support is his steadfast belief.
Justice in Pakistan has proved that it is above influence and pressure, Qadari should be hanged in public square and from a crane so that those who take law into their own hands, be made aware of the consequences of their action, be it in the name of religion or otherwise. Justice in Pakistan. we are proud of you
I am happy that Judgement has been paased on Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, the self confessed killer of Taseer. But can Pakistani and the Pakistani establishment eliminate and fight out the ideas which have created the Qadris?
We hope the Pakistanis can get rid of the ideas and elements that are defaming this country and its people. How they will do it its there own internal problem
if the mullahs and Qadri butcher had a complaint against Salman Taseer...they should have gone to the court just like everybody else and used the Blasphemy law instead of hurling bullets at Taseer and murdering him...Qadri was appointed as Taseer's bodyguard and he broke his oath by killing him...shame on those who support such a butchery!!!
If Prophet PBUH did not punish those who were blasphemers against Allah during the conquest of Mecca...how can he let his own blasphemers be killed??
Glad that the justice has been served. A criminal is criminal and no clemency for a cold-blood murder. He should be put before a firing-squad and at a public place.
Its good verdict. Crime is crime. It should be punished accordingly. No one should be allowed to take law in his own hand.
Well it all falls into place. Now they wil use his son as the bargaining chip.
@Jehangir: Don't blame the messenger...look at the message. That's what Pakistan is today...and that's what newspapers will portray. Don't like it...? Do something, but don't blame the newspaper.
@Diggvijay Singh: I support your views, I admire your Love and affection for HOLY PROPHET (PEACE BE UPON HIM). Qadri got swayed by his sheer love for the Prophet Muhammad( PEACE BE UPON HIM). I believe it is all Allah's will. Baba Bullhay Shah Said "Dushman Maray Tay Khushi Na Karya Sajna Vi MAr Jana.
Justice served - swiftly and decisively...
Thanx to Court which Took Gr8 Decision.. If Qadri would have led free then it might have encouraged other extremist elements in our society.. So as far as courts decision is observed it is Nice and fair Decision. MEET NEWS WORLD
well done a good decision by the atc court he has no right to decide about the life of a human being and he never said any bad words about prophet muhammed (pbuh) he said that the law is used in a negative way without any evidence
Thanx to Court which tooK gr8 Decision finally , if Qadri Would have led free then it might encouraged other Extremist Elements in our Society as well. So Hanging up is a Nice and fair decision.. Meet News World
Good decision. I hope that qadri is really executed
Better late then never - now its time to put all those people on trial that helped Qadri arrive at his decision to commit murder - we must make people realise that their will be consequences if they encourage people to murder in the name of God
Finally a court in pakistan has served justice - WELL DONE
I never knew that an person/humanbeing can tell weather some one has gone to hell or heven.
The courts should have also taken to task the ones who incited this action, specially the mullah , tv anchor and journalists. They all need to be punished in some way maybe banned from their profession to bring sanity to the society
I hope Qadri received a fair hearing before he was convicted so that he sees how important it is that Justice prevails. Whilst I am pleased that he was convicted as he decided to be judge jury and executioner in respect of Taseers conduct, I still do not think it is right to execute criminals as it justifies killing. Killing in self defence is ok but cold blooded murder in revenge does not send out the right message to society and will lead to more Qadri's. Life imprisonment with minimum chance of release at an old age would be more appropriate.
@alam: I agree he should have been hanged on the same day
@Diggvijay Singh: who are you Singh?? You seem to have no idea of what you are talking about! Taseer didn't say anything against Holy Prophet (PBUH), he spoke against a man-made law and certainly didn't deserve to be killed. Know the facts/details first before trying to participate in something as if its a matter of your own.
@rashid: my religion does not want me to kill anybody. You do whatever, but please don't call it our Islam because you are not following Islam, don't ask Muslims to wake up, we are peaceful people and we don't want to kill anybody, our religion and our Holy Prophet (PBUH) did not teach us this so please stop using the name of our great religion in trying to do, whatever you guys want to do. Thank God that justice has been done.
@Adnan
Ilm Din killed a person who had written a book against the Prophet. An entire campaign was launched against the author, but no action was taken. Ilm din killed the author 6 years later. In case of Taseer, he only called for reforms in the Blasphemy law. Mainstream ulema never issued any death fatwas against him. How can you compare the two?
@Anonymous:
Taseer was within the law; Qadri violated the law big time. We have very clear value system to decide what is right and what is wrong and it is all neatly laid down in the non-controversial parts of the law. There is no confusion here, unless you allow yourself to be confused. If there is no law then there is no Pakistani state.
GOOD!. Buts lets hope he doesn't get off in the appeals process
Don't hang him. Throw him in the sea. We don't need a shrine for angry mullahs to rally around.
@Salman Nisar:
Now S Taseer's son will be used as a barter item(instead of blood money) for the release of Qadri.
@Adnan:
Why is it so easy to become an extremist in the name of Islam? Does Islam not prohibit extremism?
nip the evil in the bud....justice served. RIP salman taseer
Where is Shahbaz Taseer? Will they be negotiating a Diyat payment in return of Shahbaz to have Qadri out and about?
if salman taseer was really involved in blephmesy then this is in injustice to qadri...
@Afaaq Ali Khan
So you are suggesting that no one should ever raise vice against injustice, cruelty, lies, exploitation in the name of religion? So one should ever try speaking the Truth, seek it and demand it? You are suggesting something against the very core of our religion. Salman Taseer was NOT irresponsible. And there is no time or place for speaking the Truth.
The Nation will soon start hearing news about 'Shabaz Taseer' being used as a prison for exchange ...
All taseer's supporter, never underestimate your enemy, he is way to clever and way too crazy about winning the war and humiliating your burden on earth ...
Finally the justice is served.Qadri should be hanged without any further delays, no pardons or clemency appeal should be accepted.
@mik
Since when demanding respect and rule of law become equivalent to extremism that you call those who do that 'liberal extremists'? Condemning crime and demanding justice is extremism?
Incase if people don't know or trying NOT to know:
1-Mumtaz Qadri is not a deobandi or Taliban He belongs to Barelvi sect which is considered quite LIBERAL and MODERN. Qadri was an active member of Sunni Therik. The reason Qadri was in squad because of same image of Barelvis.
2- Taseer's late father M.D Taseer was quite opposite of Salman. He provided the "chaarpai" to the deadbody of the guy who killed a Hindu who convicted the act of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad(Saw). Jinnah fought the case to save the guy, Iqbal said the famous line:"Aur wo Tirkhan ka Beta Baazi Leygaya" and MD Taseer provided his chaar pai at the time of his funeral. Sigh. As they say,"Wali k Ghar Shaitan aur Shaitan k Ghar Wali"
These are two points which I wanted to tell the "literate" commentators of this forum.
@Raza:
By reading rules and regulations of ANYTHING you can figure out the outcome, don't you?
@Mirza:
And then you guys curse Talibans to impose their views and silencing others. grin
Had he been from some Lashkar or Sipah, he would not have met this fate even he had murdered more than 70 people like Malik Ishaq (Supreme Court + Rana Sanaullah's child).
Still I salute the court for a JUST decision. If Rasool Pak (saw) has said that even Fatima (ra) does theft, She (ra) will meet same fate as ordinary thief.
I request other courts including Supreme Court to not to grant bail to terrorist for their vested interest, and must follow the example of this brave judge of Anti terrorist court.
No one should be above the law. Even if Salman did some thing wrong, he should have had been punished by the law. If every one in our society will sway away in the ocean of emotions and kill each other in the name of Islam then what will be the difference between us and barbarians?
Revenge never repairs an injury, even when the wound is healed the scar remains.
SC did what Qadri wanted, SC's decision now going to glorify Qadri as a HERO of nation. Sunni Tehrik, the Barelvi Jamat which Qadri belongs to already started protesting, chanting, Qadri Teri Azmat Ko Salat. This is the last thing which Taseers and liberals would ever want to witness. Bravo courts! you came in trap. The best thing you could do to avoid this glorification is to keep in jail till his natural death but alas, brain is seldom used.
Childish liberals are happy without even knowing the consequences of it.
Although it took too long but at last justice prevailed. Now comes the more important part where it must be visible to all that justice has actually been done. The appeals process must not drag and the judiciary must give a clear signal to restore their shaky image.
was it not a heinous crime to call Law of Islam a Kala Qanoon........ Taseer Deserve bad than that..... Every Body has to die.... But some die for the right cause....
Every single person STILL defending this man, even after he has been sentenced by a court of law is not a true Pakistani. They still insist on retaining their warped ideas of 'right and wrong' and show little to no respect for the laws of this land. - They shame not only this nation, but also the religion they claim to be SO devoted to.
@Digvijay Singh: Thanks for your concern friend. Lets hope that more saner minds and voices of reason prevail in India, a country that is mostly full of emotional (rather than rational) minds. Most Indians on ET are usually the same old rebellious trolls. You could truly teach them some ethics.
Has anybody tried to research with whom Salman Taseer was on lunch after which he was killed. This independent media has also not shown and probed this issue.
@Jameel:
He termed a highly revered law which offers legal protection to the Holy Prophet (PBUH)'s honor and dignity as a "black law". Indirectly, he condoned the reprehensible behavior of dirty minds who bring dishonor and abuse to the most important religious figure of Islam.
The law seems to have prevailed. Punjab’s slain governor Salman Taseer had refused to accept that Pakistani society is no more a society of rational people; it is a jungle where you have to accept the command of those capable of killing. You must bow down to them or get perished. Period. The world was in shock at the gory incident but it fails to understand the fact that the act was being glorified by those elements who claim to profess a religion of peace. This was the most disgusting thing, more than the murder itself. And look at the attitude of the lawyers, the so-called custodians of “rule of law” who kissed and garlanded the accused when he was brought to the court. These are all very disturbing signs. Even Islam would not condone this attitude of showing disrespect to the due process of law.
Guys Guys Guys , forget where the governed is , be it heaven or hell ... Its his son one should be concerned , he is very much alive and neither made any controversial statement either ... .Leave the topic of liberal fascism or extremism and deal the issue of the time , before it becomes a passe' too
@ Diggvijay singh
agreed
@Diggvijay Singh: I think you are deliberately confusing between legislation process and ad hoc vigilante justice. Qadri was not "a little" swayed, he "killed a person", instead of appealing to a court of justice, Islamic or secular. That way I can kill you if I think you have said anything wrong about my religion. And Salman Taseer did not "speak against" any religion. You are spreading misinformation deliberately. He wanted the country to discuss and evaluate a law, which is what politicians are supposed to do.
@liberal fascist haters: I will pay 100000000 bucks to anybody who can show an example of "liberal extremists" doing the same thing that Qadri, TTP, Haqqanis, Al Qaeda, LeJ, and LeT do. You know in your heart that liberals don't kill. That's where they are different from "religious extremists". And remember what happens to people who deliberately say untrue things?
@Diggvijay Singh: Are u not satisfied with the confusion you are creating in India that you have now started playing your game in Pakistan.They have enough problems without you pl leave them alone.
Got what he deserved. Really looking forward to see TV tonight, going 2 be quite a debate. All hell is gona break loose! Watch out for relgious discussion on the verdict
@Aafaaq Ali Khan:
What wrong words he used, enlighten us.
@Diggvijay Singh:
What unwarranted and irresponsible remarks Salman Taseer made you think which none of us Pakistanis are aware of?
@amjid:
Taseer did not break ANY law. Anyone is allowed to criticise a court decision, everyone is doing it all the time including decisions of Supreme Court. Understand law before accusing anyone of breaking it.
@Diggvijay Singh:
You need to read this before you support any actions in the name of blasphemy;
PAKISTAN: Teachers are taking over the responsibilities of the mullahs and turning educational institutions into seminaries
Don't kill him. He will become a Shaheed. He should be imprisoned, qaid bamushaqqat, for 200 years. His grave should be unmarked
First of all I want to say RIP Salmaan Taseer and that I hate Qadri and his stupid supporters. BUT I do not support death sentence nor this nonsense about "hanging him publicly, naked," etc, etc. He does not deserve respect but we don't have any right to humiliate him. He should receive life sentence in jail. If he's put to death, just watch what his supporters and others like him will do next!
@ Omar Qadri
There is no point in debating about which book precede (Quran or Sunnah). It is your thinking or let me say Ghamidi's thinking that Quran doesn't prescribe any capital punishment for blasphemy. So be clear when you say something about Quran and Sunnah!
May the Death Sentence to Killer Qadri prove a pace toward the complete death of the mind-set that has harassed whole Pakistani Nation and has destroyed our soft peaceful image around the globe.
Diggvijay Singh I doubt your credibility. How insane of you to even support a fraction for Qadri.She wasnt a Muslims which means Shariah laws are not applicable on her . Even if she said shouldnt be executed. Those shariah laws should only be applicable to Muslims. Just reverse this situation in some other Non muslim country. For instance if a Muslim is been executed in India for the disgrace of Bagvat geeti. Then how would Muslims will felt. Have ever the Holy Prophet(SAW) said , the person should be killed for Blasphemy. These kinds of fanatics within Muslim community are menace for the Real essence of Islam. Islam means peace . Do not Hurt Islam by talking lives in the Name of Islam
Let Justice be Done .Ameen
hang him in public till death
how come soldier of god can be hanged. giving shahadat is the worst thing in such case. he should be jailed for life but after killing him/ hanging him, atc just created an idol for deluded radicals
Nice and very good criminal should punish accordingly and Qadri supporters should accept the reality that Pakistan is Secular State not junooni....
He never sought mercy and from day one conceded that he killed taseer in the name of Allah (SWT) and Mohammed (SAWW). The Allah will decide who will go to Jannah but it is true that only one of them will make there. I personally pray for the Qadri!
..what about Qadri's 'betrayal of trust' also being a heinous crime??
Finally. A ray of hope shines through..
Ramon Davis ! out he goes killing Pakistani Citizens in public and certainly an agent to some US intelligence. JUSTICE ?
Well-done to our Jury this time. What a quick verdict on this sensitive issue.
Salman Taseer ( we all know the background and the family ), should not have had at first place defended anyone as he himself had near to zero comprehension of the religion. But he did make some controversial statements, maybe as politicians are used to utter gibberish on all matters whatsoever it be.
However, a man from a poor family sees immediate justice to his presumably wrong act. Qadri is a no suicide bomber who just explode and kill many non-targets. Qadri instead killed his target on the face and stood alive right there and handed himself to the police. His fate decided !
@adnan i m shocked to read your comments that Salman Taseer is in hell. how can you say thish with surity that he is in hell? but i will pray that killers like Qadri who killed Salman Taseer from behind should go to hell. he was supposed to protect him but he did otherwise.
He has 15 days time.. Hang him on the 16th day.. I am sure President of Pakistan would have no mercy for the murderer of his close friend.
This is the minimum sentence to be expected when a security guard murders the one he is supposed and paid to protect. Hope he does not get five star treatment in jail like many others.
I salute the right decision in Qadri matter kamran
Qadri should be hanged publicly!
This decision is the first step in eliminating extremism from Pakistan.
We hope that our judiciary is now taking right decision in future also.
@narayana murthy:
I am humanist and an Indian. Not all Indians need to be the same. I detest saffron terrorism and I don't mince my words about it. Please understand that we are discussing a serious and sensitive topic and I am only requesting people to refrain from making extremist statements which can hurt sentiments.
Hence Justice Prevails. Its Destined.
Although Qadri murdered Taseer, but we need to think about , why it happened. Qadri broke law and so did by Taseer. Once decision was given by court about Christian woman, Taseer should not make public comments. if he has any concerns about decisions , he should file petition.
Good. I want to see his ugly smile dissapear and see a scream of fear instead
Hang him before he disappears in mysterious circumstances from the jail. Set an example that there should be no murder in the name of religion or certain beliefs.
@Jameel:
I fully agree with you friend that killing is wrong and I acknowledge that Qadri overstepped the line. He committed a crime but we have to be sensitive to understand the flow of emotions. I personally think Qadri was a pious and honorable man at heart and devoted to the love of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
Finally
Publicly behead him, set an example of him for people taking the law into their own hands.
The religious extremists vs liberal extremists
@Saad A: But Salman Taseer was in a responsible post and he certainly made some unwarranted and irresponsible remarks on a sensitive issue. I am saying he was slightly wrong if not guilty of insulting the Holy Prophet (PBUH). As a man from the government, he needed to show more maturity and statesmanship.
finally sanity prevails in this land!
MashAllah qadir sihb you are the worrier and also who will support salman tasses like people he will died like this and wake up Muslim its high time ...... No compromises on khustakhi rasool Law ... All musilm who support that qadir sahib is killer they consider there religious believing mathoid what are they believing "Raja Shujahur Rehman, Qadri’s lawyer, told the media outside Adiala Jail that his client had also submitted a written statement of 40 pages, referring to 11 Quranic verses, 28 quotes from Sunnah and several other eminent Muslim jurists with reference to Islamic jurisprudence."
please musilm wakeup ...
@Nouman Younas:
Because he confessed from day one; otherwise we would not have seen the decision in ten years.
So how do we understand the 11 Quaranic verses and 28 quotes from Sunnah? Are they wrong? Do we reject them? Turn a blind eye?
Any answers?
@Diggvijay Singh:
Really? How about the cherish emotions of Indian public when they massacred Sikhs after Indira Ghandi's murder? How about Godhra and Gojra riots? I would think it’s the fair law of the land that we need to follow. If we leave it to the masses then everyone would be dead...eventually…barring the last person.
Murderer Qadri did not do any favour to religion and neither did bring any respect to it.
@Diggvijay Singh: Salman didn't offend anybody and nor did he used offensive words, he just asked for repelling a law that was put in place by a dictator and has caused a suffocating environment not just for non-muslims but muslims of this country, equally.
@Abdul Rehman Gilani: Mister, please define the "liberal fascist" or your definition follows that of the mullahs, to whom any sane voice is "liberal fascist"?
Now lets pray for the safety of that judge..
@NSK: "aftermaths could be terrible"
I am concerned about the safety of the judge (and his family) who gave this judgment. I hope he will be safe. I am sure the Islamist fanatics will seek revenge.
Liberal fascists and their supporters should be hanged in public as well.
Thank you Court for making the right and just decision. Bravo!
but What about Salman Taseer's Kidnapped Son... he is still missing :/
I think the timing of the decision has not be thought over.
What do you know; Pakistani state is not totally dead.
very unfortunate to celebrate a death sentence, but this fanatic needs to go, the thing is all his company should get the same sentence, including the preacher who inspired him. If not, he will continue with even more rhetoric after this beast finds himself under a ton of mud.
Mumtaz Qadri was certainly wrong in going to the extent of killing Salman Taseer. But Salman Taseer was also wrong to some extent. The authority people need to be sensitive towards the most cherished emotions of the masses. If anyone speaks a word against the Holy Prophet (PBUH), I personally feel deeply offended although it is not my own religion. It is the noblest human quality to respect people's faith and emotions. I feel deeply offended and hurt by saffron extremists and BJP miscreants in my own country who often use bad words and unparliamentary language against Islam and Muslims. We need to understand that Islam is one of the best and most peaceful religions on earth. Let's build bridges and not spread animosity. Although Qadri was wrong in his actions, I personally believe he just got swayed emotionally out of his love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and he is not a bad person at heart. He deserves our mercy, not hatred.
The "independent" courts should not entertain his appeal let alone have a long drawn out trial. Qadri should not be allowed to use media at all.
it is good news, justice done.
Very good decision- Long live justice!
why not data has been decided????????
Justice. Finally.
@Ali Zaidi: he is already in hell. How can he be long lived? Make sense please.
@Malik:
I affraid it would generate more "Extreemists" in the name of Islam.
Do we know we have more extremists in the name of secularism and liberalism?
what a quick decision. i hope poor guys could get the justice so quick.
Justice has been Served. Long live Salmaan Taseer.
Qadri Should be hanged in Public .
finally, justice is done! hang the murderous beast already.
RIP Taseer sahib. your valiant struggle will not be forgotten.
Late but right decision by the court. Court should also gave order to hang those mullahs whose speeches inspired him to kill the Governer. It was an act of "Fasaad Fil Arz"
aftermaths could be terrible
Qadri (The killer) was not authorised to decide the fate of a person. There are courts in Pakistan to make such judgements. He should be hanged till death.
ishaq
People like you can not be happy what ever happened!
Good decision from the court.
Its not Enough Qadri should be hanged 100 times.
