A division bench of the High Court of Sindh comprising Chief Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Imam Bux Baloch sought on Friday comments from the Sindh government about the closure of two roads.
The bench was hearing a grievance by an active member of the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) who questioned the closure of the court road between the Sindh Assembly and the Sindh Secretariat which serves as an artery to the SHC from the City Courts Complex and is frequently used by lawyers.
The second road was the Kamal Ataturk Road (Governor House) and according to the petitioner these two main thoroughfares are being closed on security pretexts. The closures are leading to traffic chaos in the area.
The petitioner prayed the court to order for the roads to be reopened during peak hours, including school time and court time. On Friday, the Preedy DSP appeared on court notice but was unable to answer why the roads were closed. All he could state was that they were closed on the directives of the Sindh government’s competent officers. The bench rejected the reply as unsatisfactory and ordered the advocate general of Sindh to file comments within two weeks.
