Meta pauses planned terms updates, keeps existing rules in place
Meta unveiled new terms on October 19, initially set for October 20, then delayed until November 20

Meta has paused planned updates to its Commercial Terms, Product Catalog Terms, Self-Serve Ad Terms and Ad Creative Generative AI Terms, meaning the changes will not take effect on November 20, 2026, the company said on Friday.
"We're pausing the changes as we continue to engage with stakeholders and take our time to get this right. In the meantime, our existing terms remain in effect," a spokesperson said in a statement to to Harvard’s Nieman Lab.

According the computer world website, Meta revealed new terms of services on October 19 which was due to take effect on the next day, Meta later pushed the date to November 20.
However, the brief delay failed to ease customer concerns, prompting Meta to announce on Facebook’s Business Help Centre that the update had been paused indefinitely.
Given the strong customer backlash, the company’s decision to reverse course was hardly surprising. The proposed terms were widely viewed as overly restrictive and could have exposed customers to significant legal risks, similar to those highlighted by UK regulators in recent warnings over liability for mistakes made by AI agents.
