ISLAMABAD:

Barrister Salman Safdar on Monday met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala jail.

In a post on X, Barrister Safdar confirmed he met the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi for about 40 minutes.

He said jail authorities arranged the meeting at 4:30pm today.

According to Barrister Safdar, the meeting took place after multiple requests and marked his first meeting with Imran in seven months and with Bushra in 11 months.

“The session was insufficient to cover all cases/legal matters,” the legal counsel lamented in the social media post.

During the meeting, Imran and Bushra apprised the lawyer of their health and the conditions in which they were being kept in prison.

Safdar added that both had also conveyed fresh instructions regarding certain legal matters and ongoing cases.

The lawyer did not provide further details about the specific legal instructions discussed during the meeting.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on September 2 directed the Adiala Jail authorities to ensure meaningful human interaction, family access, exercise, reading material and other facilities for Imran and his wife, Bushra.

The court held that lawful incarceration did not authorise the avoidable deprivation of human dignity.

On June 18, IHC directed Islamabad's advocate general to ensure that a meeting was arranged within seven days between Imran, his spouse Bushra, and their legal counsel to facilitate the completion of legal formalities and the prosecution of appeals against their conviction in the £190 million reference case.

Barrister Safdar last held a meeting on April 9 with Imran at Adiala Jail for legal consultation regarding the £190m case.

He stated that Adiala Jail authorities had facilitated his meeting in compliance with IHC orders, adding that the meeting lasted 60 minutes.

On April 8, the IHC on Tuesday ordered that Barrister Safdar be allowed to meet Imran in Adiala Jail in connection with the £190 million case.

Imran and Bushra Bibi remain incarcerated in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. They were sentenced on December 20, 2025, to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-II case, which pertains to allegations that the couple unlawfully retained a Bulgari jewellery set gifted by the Saudi crown prince during an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

Imran has been in custody since August 2023, serving a sentence in a £190 million corruption case. He also faces pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with protests on May 9, 2023.
