Hayley Atwell reveals Marvel filmed multiple Peggy Carter storylines for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘
The actress discussed her return while promoting her new MGM+ series ‘Treasure Island’

Hayley Atwell has revealed that Marvel Studios filmed several different storylines for Peggy Carter in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, although some versions did not make the final cut.
The actress, who has portrayed Peggy Carter across multiple Marvel projects, discussed her return while promoting her new MGM+ series Treasure Island.
Speaking alongside co-star David Oyelowo on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Atwell offered an insight into the film’s production process.
“We tried different things, we shot different things,” she explained, confirming that Marvel explored multiple creative directions for her character.
Atwell indicated that some storylines received further development, while others were eventually abandoned as the filmmakers worked towards the final version.
She also expressed confidence in the studio’s approach, describing the upcoming film as an ambitious project with considerable attention to audience expectations.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18,2026.
The film will bring together characters from different Marvel timelines and universes, although its central storyline remains largely undisclosed.
Atwell’s return was first reported by Deadline in December 2024 before Marvel officially confirmed her involvement at San Diego Comic-Con in 2026.
However, the studio has yet to reveal whether she will portray the original Peggy Carter or the Captain Carter variant.
The character’s previous appearances include Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter, What If…? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
With Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled for December 17, 2027, Peggy’s role could prove important to Marvel’s continuing multiverse storyline.
Atwell’s comments suggest audiences may ultimately see a version of the character shaped by several different creative approaches.
