The result followed a major turning point involving comedian James Acaster, whose revelation that he had secretly been recruited as a Traitor disrupted what had appeared to be a strong position for the group. His admission at the roundtable changed the direction of the game and put further pressure on the remaining players.
Maya Jama was eventually banished after Faithful Michael Sheen, who had been murdered earlier in the game, had worked out her identity. With both Traitors eliminated, Croft and Ranganathan secured the victory for the Faithfuls.
The finale also brought disappointment for James Blunt, who left the competition despite being a Faithful. His confidence in identifying the Traitors had made him a prominent voice at the roundtable, but some of his suspicions proved inaccurate and contributed to his downfall.
The season had faced challenges following the early departures of Richard E Grant and Professor Hannah Fry. Grant revealed his Traitor status shortly after being selected, while Fry was later recruited. Neither remained in the game long enough to establish a lasting dynamic among the Traitors.
As Variety noted in its finale coverage, the second series had a difficult task following the first season, which became memorable for Alan Carr’s unlikely success as a Traitor.
Despite a less predictable run of suspense and an ending that divided the season’s dramatic moments, the format continued to attract a substantial audience. The BBC reportedly said the series had reached 15 million viewers, underlining the programme’s popularity.
The latest result gives the Faithfuls a memorable victory, although the season’s twists and early exits made the journey to the final considerably different from its predecessor.
