Steven Tyler is facing a legal battle over allegations that he sexually exploited a teenage girl during the 1970s, with a lawsuit against the Aerosmith frontman continuing in California after much of the case was dismissed.

The lawsuit was filed in 2022 by Julia Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb, who alleges that Tyler began a relationship with her when she was 16 and he was in his mid-20s. Tyler has denied the allegations.

The case has drawn renewed attention to passages in Tyler’s 2011 memoir, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, in which he described their relationship and recalled Misley being 16 when they met. His account included details about their time together and living arrangements.

Misley has alleged that Tyler used his celebrity and influence to exploit her while she was underage. She has also claimed that she became pregnant during the relationship and was pressured to have an abortion.

Earlier this year, a judge dismissed most of the lawsuit, citing statute of limitations restrictions. However, a claim connected to alleged conduct during a California trip remained active, allowing the legal proceedings to continue under provisions of the California Child Victims Act.

Tyler’s attorney described the ruling as a significant victory, saying only a limited part of the case involving an alleged incident decades ago could proceed.

The lawsuit has prompted renewed discussion about the treatment of underage girls in the music industry during the 1970s and the extent to which past behaviour should be examined under current legal standards.

Misley’s case is not the only allegation involving Tyler and a teenager. In 2022, another woman, Jeanne Bellino, alleged that he assaulted her when she was 17 in 1975. Her lawsuit was dismissed in New York because of statute of limitations rules.

The California case remains ongoing. Tyler has not been found liable in the allegations, and the claims against him have yet to be resolved in court.
