Tarek El Moussa defends $150K BMW gift for daughter Taylor’s 16th birthday
Tarek and ex-wife Christina Haack surprised their daughter with the BMW X5 in August ahead of her birthday

Tarek El Moussa has defended his decision to buy his 16-year-old daughter, Taylor, a $150,000 BMW X5 for her birthday, saying the teenager earned the luxury gift through her academic and sporting achievements.
Speaking on Nicole Lapin’s Money Rehab podcast on October 28, the 45-year-old former Flip or Flop presenter explained that Taylor had achieved a 4.2 GPA and been named MVP of her freshman football team.
“She got a 4.2 GPA,” he said. “She was MVP of her freshman soccer team. She’s an absolutely fantastic kid and didn’t just get it; she actually earned it. And if you ask me, she deserved it because she worked really, really hard.”
Tarek, his wife Heather Rae El Moussa and his ex-wife Christina Haack surprised Taylor with the BMW in August, ahead of her September birthday.
He said the teenager had not requested an expensive vehicle and would have been happy with a “used Honda”.
Tarek added that safety was a major consideration behind the purchase. “That thing is built like a tank,” he said. “The biggest thing for me was safety. She’s in a safe car and she loves it.”
Addressing concerns that the gift could spoil his daughter, Tarek explained that Taylor had grown up around wealth but remained hardworking.
He also revealed that he had been teaching her financial literacy, including investing in stocks and real estate.
The surprise was organised by Tarek, Heather and Christina, who shared footage of Taylor's emotional reaction on Instagram.
Heather later said the teenager cried when she received the car.
