ISLAMABAD:

The IHC has maintained its stay order against the demolition of a graveyard in Mauza Seri Saral, Sector D-12 of the federal capital, and sought replies from the respondents by the next hearing.

Counsel for the petitioners informed the court that CDA officials had arrived to demolish the graveyard despite the stay order. Justice Azam Khan remarked that if CDA officials violated the court's order again, they would be sent to jail immediately for contempt of court and would have to serve the full six-month sentence. Justice Azam Khan heard petitions filed by local residents. The CDA and other respondents had not submitted their replies to the court.

The petitioners' counsel said the authorities had arrived to carry out an operation the previous day despite the court's stay order.
