Netflix has revealed the cast and first image from ‘Oktoberfest’, a German-language romantic comedy directed by Simon Verhoeven and set during Munich’s world-famous beer festival.

The film stars Jeanne Goursaud, known for ‘Exterritorial’, as an Oktoberfest waitress and single mother navigating a complicated personal life. She stars opposite Jannis Niewöhner, known for ‘22 Bahnen’, who plays a stressed businessman stranded in Munich during a work trip.

The two characters come from very different backgrounds but find themselves drawn together through unexpected circumstances. As their paths cross, they discover they share more in common than they initially thought, setting the stage for a romantic story about connection and unexpected encounters.

The ensemble cast includes German actors Senta Berger, Michaela May, Eisi Gulp and Marlene Morreis, alongside newcomer Bosse Hopperdietz. American actors Peter Gallagher, known for ‘The O.C.’, and Fisher Stevens, known for ‘Succession’, also feature in the film, along with Bart Edwards of ‘The Witcher’.

‘Oktoberfest’ is produced by Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann and Kirstin Winkler through Munich-based production company Wiedemann & Berg Film. The company has previously produced acclaimed titles including ‘The Lives of Others’ and ‘Never Look Away’, as well as television series such as ‘Dark’, ‘4 Blocks’ and ‘Pagan Peak’.

Verhoeven described Oktoberfest as a setting where people quickly let their guard down, creating opportunities for unexpected and genuine encounters. He highlighted the festival’s unusual mix of romance and chaos as a key element of the film’s appeal.

Production began on September 15, 2026, with filming taking place during the actual Oktoberfest in Munich. The cast and crew shot scenes among festival visitors, inside the beer tents and across the festival grounds.

Filming is continuing at Studio Penzing near Munich, where the production has recreated the Oktoberfest environment.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for the German romantic comedy.
