Influencers Griffin Johnson and Macy Broyles are engaged after the content creator proposed to his longtime girlfriend during a romantic seaside proposal in Florida.

Johnson, 27, popped the question on October 24 at the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort in Bal Harbour, Florida, after five years together. The entrepreneur and Animal Capital co-founder shared the news in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

“I left Los Angeles to build a life with Macy, and five years later, I got to ask her to spend the rest of it with me,” Johnson said.

The proposal took place beneath palm trees at a secluded spot decorated with white rose petals and lush greenery. Johnson presented Broyles with a 4.03-carat, old mine cushion-cut diamond engagement ring from Maddie Grace Jewelry. The ring features a gold band, a hidden halo and an engraving of Broyles’ nickname in Johnson’s handwriting.

Johnson said keeping the proposal a secret was challenging because the couple work, travel and share hobbies together. He arranged for Broyles to believe they were attending an influencer event celebrating a new Celsius energy drink flavour. A white-or-glitter dress code also helped conceal his plans.

The couple first met at a sorority formal in 2019 and later went their separate ways as friends while pursuing different priorities. Johnson was building his social media career with the Sway House collective, while Broyles focused on completing college.

In 2021, Johnson moved to Florida, and Broyles joined him after graduating from Indiana State University. She initially worked as his assistant before their romantic relationship rekindled.

The couple lived together in Bal Harbour for two years, making the location especially meaningful for their engagement. They now divide their time between West Palm Beach and a Michigan farm they plan to develop into a Thoroughbred rehabilitation space.

Johnson, who has 9.4 million TikTok followers, said they have supported each other’s ambitions while building a life together.
