PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said sports can play a significant role in countering extremism by promoting tolerance, healthy competition and constructive engagement among young people.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the Zalmi Madrassa Cricket League Tournament at Governor House Peshawar, he appreciated the organisers for arranging the event and providing madrassa students with an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent.

The governor said police and security forces had rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, which the entire nation held in high esteem. He stressed that madrassa students were an integral part of society and deserved proper support and encouragement to develop their abilities.

He said K-P was rich in natural resources, adding that the government was committed to providing young people with opportunities to participate in sports and other constructive activities.

"We are lagging behind in the field of sports, and it is essential to provide our youth with opportunities to excel in sports and other positive pursuits," he said.

Kundi also appealed to Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman to give K-P the opportunity to host the opening ceremony of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this year.

He said the people of the province were peace-loving and wanted to move forward through hard work and dedication.

The governor maintained that when national institutions worked together, they sent a positive message to the world. He said sports helped develop tolerance, competitive spirit and discipline while encouraging young people to engage in healthy and productive activities.
