Over 400 'illegal structures' razed

More than 400 shops, markets and other illegal structures have been demolished during the ongoing grand operation against encroachments and unauthorised constructions along Peshawar's Ring Road and adjoining areas, as the drive entered its sixth consecutive day on Friday.
The operation is being carried out on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Afaq Wazir, with the district administration continuing its efforts to remove encroachments from government land and improve traffic flow along major roads in the provincial capital.
The large-scale operation covers several areas along the Ring Road, including Garhi Qamar Din, the toll plaza, Jamil Chowk, Pir Zakori Flyover and Pishtakhara Chowk. Heavy machinery is being used to demolish illegal structures and remove encroachments established on public land.
Personnel from the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and other relevant departments are participating in the joint operation under the supervision of the district administration.
According to the administration, the coordinated drive aims to reclaim government land, widen the Ring Road and adjoining roads, improve the movement of traffic and alleviate the difficulties faced by commuters.
The operation has targeted a range of unauthorised structures, including shops.
