LHC moved over alleged Multan encounter

LAHORE:

An application has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking a transparent investigation into an alleged police encounter in Multan in which a suspect, Tauqeer, was killed. The application was filed by the Judicial Activism Panel, which also questioned the legal status and authority of the Crime Control Department (CCD).

The petitioner maintained that every citizen was entitled to a fair trial under the Constitution and called for an impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Tauqeer's death.

It also sought the suspension of the police personnel allegedly involved in the encounter pending completion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court Bar Association has announced plans to approach the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to seek registration of a case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz over her alleged remarks accusing a judge of accepting a bribe.
