The Sindh Wildlife Department has registered a case against five people, including two nominated suspects and three unidentified individuals, following the circulation of a video and photographs showing the alleged illegal hunting of migratory birds at Chotiari Dam.
The footage, which went viral on social media, reportedly showed a hunter holding a double-barrelled gun aboard a boat, while a large number of illegally hunted birds of different species could be seen lying at its front.
Following the circulation of the footage, the Wildlife Department registered a case against Mitho Mallah, Ustad Shafi and three unidentified suspects under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Sindh Wildlife Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management Act, 2020.
The case was registered at the Wildlife Station Police Station in Sanghar on the complaint of Hussain Bakhsh Khoso.
According to the Wildlife Department, the suspects allegedly hunt birds illegally and sell them in local markets. The incident has raised concerns over the illegal hunting of migratory birds at Chotiari Dam and the need for effective enforcement of wildlife protection laws.
