Charli XCX is set to appear in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film What Happens at Night, joining an ensemble cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, according to Variety.

The British pop star will reportedly make a cameo in the Apple and StudioCanal production, described as a gothic psychological horror film. Details about her character and the extent of her role have not been revealed.

Based on a story about an American married couple travelling to a small European town to adopt a baby, What Happens at Night follows their increasingly unsettling experience as they struggle to bring the child home. As events unfold, the couple begin to question their understanding of themselves and their surroundings.

Charli XCX joins a cast that also includes Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson and Jared Harris. Representatives for the singer, Apple and StudioCanal did not immediately respond to Variety’s requests for comment.

The project marks another step in Charli’s growing involvement in filmmaking. Known for her music career and the success of her album Brat, the singer has appeared in seven films over the past two years. One of her recent projects is The Moment, a mockumentary directed by Aidan Zamiri that satirises the commercial success and cultural impact of Brat.

Her interest in cinema has also influenced her latest album, Music, Fashion, Film, whose cover features filmmaker Scorsese alongside designer Marc Jacobs and musician John Cale, representing the three creative fields.

For Scorsese, What Happens at Night will follow his 2023 film Killers of the Flower Moon, which starred DiCaprio and received 10 Academy Award nominations, including best picture.

The release date for What Happens at Night has not yet been announced.
