Glenn Close shares recovery update ahead of ‘The Hunger Games’ premiere
The actress thanked her family for their support as she prepares for upcoming events in London and New York

Glenn Close has confirmed that she underwent a complete hip replacement after her recent public appearance with a cane sparked concern among fans.
The 79-year-old actress shared the health update in an Instagram video on October 20, explaining that her left hip had been in poor condition and required surgery.
“I have a cane because I had a complete hip replacement,” Close said, reassuring followers that she was feeling well while recovering. She also thanked fans for their concern and expressed gratitude for the support she has received from her family.
Close explained that the procedure was part of her efforts to maintain her health and remain ready for upcoming professional opportunities. Her message came five days after she was photographed carrying a cane at the opening night screening of La Bola Negra during NewFest in New York.
The appearance prompted questions from fans, with some speculating about the reason for her mobility aid. Close has now clarified that it was related to her recent surgery rather than an undisclosed acting role.
Her outing also attracted attention because of her outfit. She wore a jacket featuring the New York Knights, the fictional baseball team from The Natural, the 1984 sports drama in which she starred opposite Robert Redford.
Despite her recovery, Close has several professional commitments approaching. She is expected to travel to London on October 26 for the opening of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, in which she plays Drusilla Sickle. The film is scheduled to reach cinemas on November 20.
She is also due to appear in the Hulu series All’s Fair, with its second season listed for November 4.
Close has not indicated that her recovery will prevent her from attending these events. Her latest update instead focused on feeling well, appreciating her family’s help and preparing for the work ahead.
The actress’s message has reassured concerned followers while offering a personal update on her recovery following the operation.
