‘Obsession’ Fortnite collaboration faces criticism over Nikki’s character
Epic Games included Nikki’s signature ‘No No No…’ line as an emote in the Fortnitemares 2026 bundle

Epic Games’ new Obsession collaboration with Fortnite has sparked debate among players, with criticism focusing on the Nikki skin’s black blood effect and concerns about bringing the horror film’s central character into the game.
The cosmetic, inspired by the 2026 horror film directed by Curry Barker, features actress Inde Navarrette’s character Nikki. The skin includes an animated facial expression recreating one of the film’s memorable scenes, alongside an emote featuring Nikki’s signature “No No No…” line.
The items are scheduled to arrive in the Fortnite Item Shop on October 21 as part of the game’s FORTNITEMARES 2026 event.
One major point of contention is the skin’s blood effect. In a style referencing a scene in which Nikki’s face is covered in blood, the game uses a black substance instead of red blood. Some players have criticised the alteration, arguing that it weakens the visual resemblance to the original film.
Others questioned whether the change amounts to unnecessary censorship. The discussion has spread across social media, where players have shared their reactions to the cosmetic’s appearance.
However, the blood effect is not the only aspect of the collaboration drawing criticism. Some players have also questioned the decision to make Nikki a playable character because of the disturbing circumstances surrounding her story in Obsession.
In the film, Nikki is subjected to a supernatural situation that affects her ability to choose whom she loves. Her relationship with Bear develops under coercive circumstances, raising questions about consent and personal autonomy.
Critics of the crossover argue that turning Nikki into a character players can control creates an uncomfortable contrast with the loss of agency she experiences in the film. Some have suggested that adding Bear as an opposing character would offer an alternative way to engage with the story.
