KARACHI: A division bench of the Sindh High Court has summoned the Sindh government and advocate general to court in a constitutional petition seeking compensation for the heirs of the 19 victims of the rummy club bomb blast.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Imam Bux Baloch, was hearing a petition filed by the United Human Rights Commission Pakistan (not to be confused with the HRCP). The NGO’s Rana Faiz-ul Hassan, filed the petition looking to have the club closed down and for the victims of the blast to be compensated.

He maintained that 19 people were killed in the bomb blast on April 22 but the club was up and running after a few days. He submitted that, while culprits are still untraced, a similar tragedy could occur.

The bench decided to summon the advocate general for a date to be announced later. The case’s respondents include the Sindh government, home minister, inspector-general of police, Haji Ramzan Kantewala and Ejaz Memon.
