Sebastian Stan has offered fans an ominous glimpse at Avengers: Doomsday, saying he expects the upcoming Marvel film to be “probably heartbreaking” while admitting he has not seen the finished movie yet.

Speaking with Decider while promoting his new film Fjord, Stan said he does not know how Doomsday turned out. “I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out,” he said. “I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level.”

Stan’s comments have sparked speculation among Marvel fans about whether the film could feature character deaths. However, his remarks do not confirm that any particular character will die, and he has not revealed plot details.

The actor, who returns as Bucky Barnes, also reflected on reuniting with his Marvel co stars during production. Stan said he “got a chance to reunite with everyone” and described the experience as “very nostalgic”, recalling the years they have spent working together.

“It’s been a family and it never stops being that way,” Stan said.

Avengers: Doomsday brings together a large group of Marvel characters, with Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Vanessa Kirby, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh and others among the cast. Robert Downey Jr is also returning to the franchise, this time as Doctor Doom.

Chris Evans is also set to appear, marking his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after his Captain America story appeared to conclude with Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 18. The film is expected to set up the next major chapter of the MCU, but Stan offers no confirmation about who survives.
