David Harbour and John Cena will star in 'The Family Disappears', a new dark comedy from Fifth Season

David Harbour and John Cena are set to lead The Family Disappears, a new comedy from Fifth Season that will be directed by Swedish filmmaker Jonatan Etzler.
Based on an original screenplay by Brendan O’Hare, The Family Disappears follows an overworked father who returns home from a work trip to discover that his family has vanished. He then finds that a mysterious newcomer has bought the house and moved in, setting the story up as a comedy with thriller elements.
Fifth Season is producing the film, with Nick Weidenfeld through Friends Night and Alexis Garcia through CAT5 serving as producers. The pair previously worked together on Friendship, the comedy starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd that was also produced by Fifth Season and A24.
The film is expected to have a darkly comic tone similar to Friendship and HBO’s DTF St. Louis, the latter of which recently earned Harbour an Emmy for his performance.
Production on The Family Disappears is scheduled to begin in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 10.
Harbour recently starred in DTF St. Louis and is preparing to conclude his five-season run as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things. His upcoming projects include Avengers: Doomsday, Violent Night 2 and John Rambo.
Cena, meanwhile, earned his first Emmy nomination this year as an executive producer of Prime Video’s Heads of State, in which he also stars alongside Idris Elba. His upcoming projects include Matchbox the Movie and Netflix comedy One Attempt Remaining, opposite Jennifer Garner.
Etzler most recently directed the dark comedy Bad Apples, starring Saoirse Ronan.
