Rosie O'Donnell joins London play about Gisele Pelicot trial
Rosie O'Donnell and Julie Hesmondhalgh will join a one-off London play based on the Gisele Pelicot trial

Rosie O'Donnell, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Adjoa Andoh and Tamzin Outhwaite are among the actors and public figures joining The Pelicot Trial, a one-off documentary theatre performance based on the case of Gisele Pelicot.
The four-hour production will be staged by the Young Vic at London's County Hall on November 30. The performance will also be streamed online.
The play is based on documents from the trial, including testimonies and psychiatric reports involving men prosecuted in the case. It focuses on the trial of Dominique Pelicot, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of drugging and raping his then-wife and allowing other men to rape her while she was unconscious.
The case attracted international attention and made Gisele Pelicot a prominent symbol in discussions surrounding sexual assault and survivor rights. Pelicot waived her right to anonymity during the proceedings and said that shame should belong to her abusers rather than her.
Other cast members include Juliet Stevenson, Samuel West, Olivia Williams, Kadiff Kirwan, Rosie Jones, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Lorraine Ashbourne and Jordan Stephens.
The Pelicot Trial was developed with journalists and feminist organisations in France. The production received its world premiere in Vienna last year before touring cities including Avignon, New York, Lisbon, Milan and Bergen.
The Young Vic described the production as documentary theatre built from written accounts and testimonies from the trial. The theatre said the performance pays tribute to Pelicot and the wider significance of her decision to publicly identify herself as a survivor.
Additional casting for the London performance is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets will go on general sale on Wednesday.
