Nick Reiner’s aunt speaks out on her relationship with him ahead of trial
Nick Reiner’s aunt Martine Singer says she has had no contact with him since he was jailed over his parents’ deaths

Martine Singer, the aunt of Nick Reiner, has revealed that she has had no contact with her nephew since he was imprisoned following the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
Speaking to Los Angeles’ ABC7 News in an interview that aired on October 2, Martine said she was continuing to deal with the loss of her sister and brother-in-law.
"I'm functioning," Martine said. "I went back to work in January, as best I could. But it's always there. It's always in my mind and in my heart."
Martine, who runs one of Southern California's biggest children's nonprofit organisations, recalled receiving a call from a relative in December 2025 informing her that Michele had been killed.
"She said, 'Something terrible's happened and you need to go over there.' It was probably the longest car ride of my life," Martine recalled.
Nick, 33, is accused of killing his parents on December 14, 2025. He was arrested near the UCLA campus and has since been held at Los Angeles' Twin Towers Correctional Facility while awaiting trial.
He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors have confirmed that they will not seek the death penalty.
Asked by ABC7's Marc Brown whether she had anything to say to Nick, Martine paused before responding.
"I appreciate the question. I'm not sure I can answer that," she said.
Martine also spoke about the difficulty of referring to her sister and brother-in-law in the past tense.
"They were a force field, they really were," she said. "They were magnetic. They were charismatic. They were funny and loud and boisterous. The world seems very empty without them."
Nick's brother Jake Reiner previously discussed the family's loss, saying he and his sister Romy were dealing with their parents' deaths while Nick remained in jail.
Nick is next due in court on October 23 for a probate hearing concerning his access to a family trust to help fund his legal expenses.
