Will Reeve reveals he and wife Amanda banked sperm after his testicular cancer diagnosis before starting IVF

Will Reeve has opened up about his testicular cancer diagnosis, revealing that he and his wife, Amanda Dubin Reeve, went to a sperm bank shortly after learning he would need surgery.

The ABC News correspondent, 34, discussed his cancer journey during a September 29 appearance on Good Morning America. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Reeve revealed that he and Amanda wanted to preserve the possibility of having children together.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we went right to the sperm bank, like, the day after [the diagnosis],” Reeve said.

Reeve was diagnosed with testicular cancer in April after Amanda encouraged him to seek medical attention for a painful lump he had initially dismissed. An ultrasound led to the diagnosis, and doctors advised him to undergo an orchiectomy, a procedure to remove the affected testicle.

Before the surgery, Reeve was advised to bank sperm as a precaution. He said he and Amanda “do want to start a family” and wanted to preserve their options despite an orchiectomy not necessarily preventing natural conception.

Following the surgery, tests showed that 95% of the cancer was embryonal carcinoma, an aggressive form of the disease. Reeve subsequently underwent a six-hour procedure to remove dozens of abdominal lymph nodes, three of which tested positive for testicular cancer. He also completed two rounds of chemotherapy.

Reeve said he was declared cancer-free on September 8. He and Amanda are now proceeding with in vitro fertilisation, which he described as medically necessary.

“The great joy is that we are going to be able to have children, our own children,” Reeve said.
