Girls outshine boys in intermediate exams

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi has announced the results and position holders of the Intermediate First Annual Examination 2026, with female students outperforming male candidates and securing all three top positions.

The overall pass percentage stood at 60.08%, while female students recorded a pass percentage of 67.56% against 46.53% for male candidates.

A total of 62,233 candidates had registered for the examination. Of these, 799 remained absent and cases were registered against 29 candidates, leaving 61,409 candidates who appeared. Of those, 36,896 passed while 24,513 failed.

A total of 2,671 candidates secured an A+ grade, 5,577 an A grade, 10,176 a B grade, 12,288 a C grade, 5,815 a D grade and 365 an E grade.

Board Chairman Prof Dr Iqbal Mahmood, Controller of Examinations Tanveer Asghar Awan and Secretary Prof Amjad Iqbal Khattak announced the position holders.

Atfa Javed of Punjab College for Women, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi, secured first position overall with 1,156 marks. Noor Fatima Sajid, also of Punjab College for Women, Satellite Town, secured second position with 1,151 marks.

Nabia Iman of Punjab College for Women, Talagang, and Muneeb Shah of Punjab College, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi, jointly secured third position with 1,142 marks each.

Prof Mahmood congratulated the position holders, saying their outstanding performance was the result of their hard work and dedication.

A ceremony honouring the position holders will be held at the Rawalpindi BISE premises today (Wednesday), where high-achieving students will be presented with awards.

The chairman said the Rawalpindi Board had been fully digitised and that the use of unfair means had been eliminated, making the examination system completely transparent.
