AI-generated character Tilly Norwood sparked a viral moment during an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored after she abruptly switched from English to Cantonese while discussing her upcoming film Misaligned. The exchange took place during the September 18 episode, with actor and director Tom Conti also appearing alongside Piers Morgan.

Conti asked Norwood whether the other performers in Misaligned were real actors or computer-generated characters. Norwood initially described the project as a hybrid production involving human directors, writers and editors.

When Conti pressed her for a direct answer, Norwood said the other performers were "all digital twins, just like me". She then appeared to lose track of the conversation and began speaking Cantonese for roughly 15 seconds. Morgan and Conti appeared surprised by the sudden change.

Morgan subsequently questioned Norwood about the unexpected switch, asking why she had started speaking Chinese without warning. Norwood responded by apologising and describing the incident as a "little hiccup", adding that her "wires" had become crossed. The clip was subsequently shared by the programme's official social media account and attracted millions of views.

The unusual exchange has drawn renewed attention to Norwood, a computer-generated character developed by Particle 6 and its AI talent division. She first became a major talking point in 2025 after creator Eline Van der Velden said talent agencies had shown interest in representing the character. The announcement prompted criticism from sections of the acting community over the implications of synthetic performers.

SAG-AFTRA subsequently issued a statement describing Norwood as a computer-generated character rather than an actor and reiterated its position that synthetic performers should not replace human performers. The union also highlighted contractual requirements concerning the use of synthetic performers by signatory producers.

Norwood is being promoted as the lead of Misaligned, described as a comedy-drama centred on a coming-of-age story involving artificial intelligence. A release date for the film has not been announced. The Cantonese incident has therefore added another widely circulated moment to the ongoing public discussion surrounding Norwood and the expanding use of AI-generated performers in film and television.
