Hospital machinery sale case gathers dust

The reported sale of machinery worth millions of rupees belonging to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital at throwaway prices, which initially triggered strong public reaction, remains unresolved, with no tangible progress in any investigation so far.

Sources said the hospital administration's alleged long-standing practice of keeping audit authorities satisfied has once again become an obstacle to transparency in the matter. They alleged that attempts were made to cover up "corruption" involving millions of rupees through a 'share according to one's status' formula and mutual understanding, making it difficult to determine responsibility.

The seriousness of the matter could be gauged from the fact that members of the Hospital Management Committee (HMC) expressed serious reservations over alleged large-scale corruption and irregularities and refused to sign the minutes of the committee's 15th meeting held in April 2026.

According to sources, new members were appointed to the committee following their refusal to sign the minutes.
