PKLI set for first kidney transplant

RAWALPINDI:

The Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) Rawalpindi is all set to perform its first kidney transplant today (Friday), following two successful liver transplants at the facility. A team of specialist doctors has completed preparations for the first kidney transplant, scheduled for 8am. A resident of Farash Town, Islamabad, will receive a kidney donated by his biological brother.

Following the procedure, PKLI Board of Governors Chairman Dr Saeed Akhtar will hold a press conference to brief the media about the first kidney transplant and the facility's earlier liver transplant procedures.

PKLI Rawalpindi performed its first successful liver transplant on August 25, involving a resident of Rajanpur who received a liver donation from his nephew. A second liver transplant was performed on August 26, when a resident of Kallar Syedan received a liver donation from his sister.
