Christopher Briney reveals how he broke his hand filming 'The Julia Set' after punching a wall during an intense scene

Christopher Briney has revealed how he broke his hand while filming his upcoming drama The Julia Set, after previously keeping the details of the injury private until the film’s release.

The The Summer I Turned Pretty star discussed the incident following the film’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly at TIFF, Briney explained that the injury happened while filming an intense scene involving his character, Pascal.

“I punched a wall in this movie,” Briney said, confirming that he had finally revealed the story behind his broken hand.

Briney plays Pascal, a teaching assistant who becomes involved with a gifted university student in The Julia Set. In the scene, his character punches a wall, and Briney performed the action himself rather than simulating the impact. The actor said the decision resulted in a hairline fracture.

“I did break my hand,” Briney explained, adding that the injury occurred towards the end of production. He also noted that the damage could have been worse.

Briney had previously mentioned breaking his hand during an April appearance on Today, but chose not to disclose how the injury happened because he wanted to wait until The Julia Set premiered.

The film stars Chase Infiniti as a talented university student who becomes entangled in an unhealthy relationship with Briney’s Pascal. The character is recruited into an elite group of young prodigies preparing for the prestigious Putnam mathematics competition.

The cast also includes Jason Isaacs, Gillian Anderson and Nico Hiraga. The Julia Set premiered at TIFF on Friday, marking the first public screening of the drama.
