Number of cops removed for corruption tops 210

As part of a crackdown on corruption, 210 police officials have been removed from their posts across Punjab, including 42 in Lahore, in the past eight days. Employees from the rank of constable to inspector have been removed from their posts, according to police sources. The sources said 41 officials had faced action for involvement in corrupt practices. Those facing action were suspended and subjected to departmental penalties depending on the nature of allegations.

The police said further action would be taken against other officials allegedly involved in corruption on the basis of confidential reports and investigations.

The inspector general has directed the Internal Accountability Branch to ensure timely action against officials accused of misconduct and corruption, the sources said.
